Throughout The Battle

Saturday, November 20, 2010

Do you ever feel that you’ve come to the end of your rope? Have you felt that life has become so overwhelming that if just one more difficult or challenging thing happens you will lose the battle and the army of giants in your life will overtake you? Sometimes life feels that way. It comes at you like a battering ram until you are bruised and aching, feeling that you can’t take anymore. But in times like those, when we feel defeated, we need to remember that though life can be hard, our Savior is there for us throughout the battle.

Recently, a series of events have occurred in my life that have left me so emotionally exhausted that I haven’t been able to function as I should. My smile has been forced, my laugh strained and my positive attitude has been injured. Pressure has enveloped me like an evil vice grip and stress has taken its toll. How long, I have wondered, until I would feel relief? As I have opened my eyes each day, I have cried out to God and I know He hears me. “You are my Helper and my Savior. O my God, do not delay” (Psalm 40:17b).

God always proves faithful in all He does and I trust Him completely. The difficulty, I have found, lies in remembering that His timing is perfect. Even in my struggles, He is working with a purpose. In my weakness, I have felt that I couldn’t handle any more. With my strength drained and energy gone, fear crept its way into my tired soul and I struggled to stand in the battle. But, as I confessed my fears to Him, I remembered that the battle is the Lord’s! He will hold me up and fight for me. I need not be afraid! “…This is what the Lord says: ‘Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s’” (2 Chronicles 20:15).

My Lord is here with me…and He is here with you, too. We can stand firm in the knowledge that throughout all of life’s trials, God is fighting for us. He is greater than any of our giants. Though we are weak, He will hold us up and deliver us. “‘You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you’” (2 Chronicles 20:17).

So, as we go out and face another day full of challenges, struggles…and giants, we can have courage. The Lord will be with us and the battle is His.

In His grip,

  1. Do you ever feel like you've come to the end of your rope?

    OH YES!

What an encouraging word here, Joan. Thanks for a really comforting message. The battle is the Lord's - so hard to remember sometimes. Especially when we have to WAIT for deliverance. But still, so true...

    I like these inspiring verses:

"...Don't be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today...The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm." (Exodus 14:13-14)

Hang in there - and GOD BLESS!

  2. I can so relate to all you write Joan. There are times when I feel so weary and overwhelmed. But then I remember that the Lord is with me and I also know that no trial is wasted. There is a purpose and right now I may not understand the reason why.

One of my favorite verses is Isaiah 41:10 "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your god. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

I have it laminated and placed right under my computer screen to remind me that He is always with me.

Too often Christians forget that this isn't our real home. We're just passing through. But along the way, we can be a light for others. As they see us go through trials, will they see a different response from us and wonder why? That is one of my prayers each day.

But then there are those days when my human emotions take over. I have to make the choice then to trust Him ...even though I don't understand and know by faith that He loves me and is with me in the valleys too.

    Love,
    Debbie

  4. I too have been in this place, this year, Joan. Thank you for actually bringing a confirmation word in the scripture you quoted...

How ironic that we keep forgetting that just because He calls us to stand, it doesn't mean we have to fight. We go to take our place... to demonstrate our faith. But once there, He fights for us.

I pray He helps us both to stand, tomorrow.

  5. Oh yes, Joan, I have been there. (You know the old saying, been there, bought the t-shirt.) Debbie mentioned a verse in Isaiah and I would like to offer another one. "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you."
    (Isiah 43:2)

Lifting you up in prayer, dear sister.

  6. Thank you Joan for reminding us that we are NOT alone in our struggles. Even as we groan in the face of many trials, GOD is in control.
May His strength and peace comfort you tonight.
May His past provision be an encouragement as you walk through difficult valleys. HE us trustworthy!
    Praying for you~

  7. Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I'm glad I came to check you out ~ this was some timely encouragement. Today has been a bit of a rough day ~ nothing very serious, just a bunch of little irritations combined with a lack of sleep ~ but it's so nice to be reminded of His promises that will see us through ANYTHING, great or small. ♥
