The Gift of Hope

Saturday, December 01, 2012

On this first Sunday in Advent – the season when we prepare our hearts for the celebration of the birth of Christ – we are reminded to place our hope in Him. He is our firm foundation and the Anchor which holds us fast. Jesus came to this earth, lived and then died among us in order to provide a way to bridge the gap between us and God. He came to give us hope – hope of a life forever with Him. Christ, the ultimate sacrificial Lamb, willingly took our sins upon His shoulders to set us free! What an incredible gift! No longer are we chained to our pasts or burdened with an uncertain future.

“This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.
It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary” (Hebrews 6:19).

When we place our hope in Him, we will never be disappointed.  The things of this world will come and go, like sand slipping through our fingers.  But Christ and His promises are trustworthy and unchanging.  He tells us that no matter what happens in this world, when we place our hope in Him, we are secure.  And that security…that hope…gives us peace of mind and heart.

  3. "When we place our hope in Him, we are never disappointed." As I read this line, I am convicted of placing my hope in someone who does disappoint. Thank you for this reminder. I am encouraged by it this morning to change my view and perspective (again). haha. Have a beautiful week Joan.

  4. Don't you love the advent season? My husband tries to do something a bit different each year. Last year he had families light the candle each week. This year he's using monologues. Yesterday was Anna. The thought that she was a young widow, not children of her own, yet chosen to be one who held the Christ Child brought awe to my heart. God's ways are so beautiful. I hope in Him!

  5. That is so easy to do...and quite human! I've been guilty of placing my hope in a person rather than the Lord many times. And those times have often resulted in disappointed. However, whenever I have placed my hope in God, I have always been encouraged! He has a plan and is always faithful! Thanks for stopping by this morning! Blessings, Joan

  6. I agree...I love the Advent season! It builds our joy and hope and centers our hearts as we prepare for the celebration of the birth of Christ! Thanks for sharing about your ways of celebrating. Might I guess that your husband is a pastor? We light the Advent candles at our church as well...and this year we are doing that plus doing monologues! Yesterday it was on Mary's Song and how she felt knowing that she would carry the Christ-child. Blessings, Joan
