In The Garden

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to work in the garden. It was a beautiful, warm spring day. The sun was shining overhead and the heady scent of our neighbor’s orange tree blossoms floated on the breeze. Earlier in the day I had purchased some annuals to add to my flower bed and I was excited to plant them. As I dug my hands into the earth, and felt the coolness of the freshly turned soil between my fingers, I sensed a sudden closeness with the Lord. His love enveloped me and praises filled my heart. That happens often when I am in the garden. It is as if the rest of the world, with all its cares and worries, slips away leaving just the two of us to share in an intimate moment together.

Imperishable Beauty

A few weeks ago I had a mini crisis in the beauty department. I woke up on a normal Monday morning that was to precede a very busy week, expecting to go through my usual routine. But then, I looked in the mirror. What I saw didn’t seem right to me. So, I turned on the bright overhead light and pulled my magnifying mirror out of the drawer to take a closer look. As soon as I was able to focus clearly on my face, I instantly saw a red swelling beginning in my right eyelid. “That’s strange,” I thought, and for a few seconds I didn’t realize what was wrong. Then, it dawned on me that I had a sty. I had never had one before, but figured this must be what they looked like.

Determined to fix it, I went to the first place so many of us go to when seeking advice - Google J. I read about some home remedies and when it was recommended to go to the doctor. I decided to give it a little bit of time and then decide what to do. Well, by the time I was finished visiting with my mother two hours later, the swelling had doubled in size and there was quite a bit of pain. So, off to the doctor I went...

Sharing His Beauty

This week, I found much beauty in the sunny spring days!  My patio even received a spring cleaning and rearranging of the furniture, along with a new shade umbrella!  I wasn't the only one arranging my "house" this week.  We have a pair of doves who have decided to make their nest in our backyard, right next to our bird feeder.  I guess they don't want to travel far for meals!  I am able to watch the coming and goings of these attentive parents from my living room window, patio or even closer if I need to change the seed in the feeder!  In another week, their eggs should hatch and we'll be able to enjoy the beauty of new life in our yard!

Strength I Need

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."  Isaiah 41:10

Thank you, Father, for the courage you give!  I know that with you, there is no need to be afraid.
My spirits are lifted knowing that you are here, giving me the strength I need to face all that is before me.  What a blessing it is to be loved by a righteous God!  I am trusting you and allowing your peace to enter my heart. In Jesus' name, amen.
