Now, for You

Our God is not a distant God. He sees and cares about everything that happens to us in our lives. He comforts us and heals our aching hearts. I know you’ve heard that before. And, if you are like I used to be, believing that is fine and dandy for everyone else. But when it comes to our problems, our pain, and our grief, our faith can be rather shaky. I’m just one person out of billions on this earth. A speck of dust basically, on a huge ball of dirt. Why would God want to help me? Imperfect, weak and insignificant me…

Why? Because, it pleases Him to do so.

My heart is in such a different place today than it was at this same time last year. I can hardly believe the change. Last October, I had just experienced a kick to the gut through the heart-wrenching rejection from a child. It came out of the blue and was totally unexpected.

Sharing His Beauty Blog Link Up

This has been a beautiful week, hasn't it?  God has shown me beauty through friends meeting in my home over a nice cup of coffee (and tea) while discussing a great book!  He's also shown me His beauty by the courage He gave me to speak in front of a group and share some of what is on my heart...That was a first for me, but amazingly, I wasn't nervous speaking!  It was a blessing to be able to share and to hopefully encourage those who were listening!  Then, over this weekend, He showed me His beauty through working side by side with my husband as we re-did our bathroom and then celebrated in the evening by having dinner out!  It seems I am appreciating the "little" things more and more these days and I am so thankful!

From Isolation to Community

Tuesday morning I had the privilege of sharing some of my story before a group of women at my church. When the large group leader asked me if I would be willing to speak, I was a little bit nervous, but excited at the same time. I had never spoken in front of a large group before, but prayed that God would make the words flow and what I said would be an encouragement to those listening. The group is doing a study on Ephesians and we have been learning about the importance of community within the Body of Christ. And so, when I was asked to speak, I knew exactly what I wanted to share. Because much of what I spoke about involves many of you, I wanted to share my thoughts here on my blog as well. So, here it is, in paragraph form…

There have been a couple of times in my life when I have learned and then re-learned the importance of leaning on the Lord. Most recently, I was reminded of this during the last year. For those of you who know me well, you know that about a year and a half ago, my husband and I moved away from Santa Rosa to the Sacramento area. There were several reasons for our move that seemed smart at the time…including moving for my husband’s work and to bring my mom closer to where my brother lives.

Sharing His Beauty Blog Link Up

Well, Sunday evening has come and gone, and I am just now putting up my Sharing His Beauty link up post!  I'm sorry for it's lateness...  I have a good excuse, though!  I was away this weekend with my husband enjoying the incredible beauty that God provided in Yosemite National Park.  The park, which is a few hours away from us, is my favorite place to visit.  The sheer granite cliffs complemented by the beautiful colors in the valley take my breath away every time we are there. During our visit, we did some hiking, took lots of photographs, enjoyed watching the wildlife and even met up with one of my best friends for coffee whom I had not seen for 4 years! It was a beautiful weekend and I am thanking God for the blessing of every moment of it!

Promises Gripped

As I went through this past year, learning tough lessons on courage, God has shown me so much. One of the things I have learned has me really excited right now! I’ve learned the importance of not letting time slip away without following the inner nudging of the Lord. So often I have said things to myself like, “Oh, I’d love to do that someday,” or “If only I were braver or more talented or knowledgeable I’d do that.” I’ve even said the typical insecure statement, “Oh, I’m not qualified. God doesn’t want to use me.” And then, the opportunities passed leaving me feeling disappointed and more insecure than before.

But, no more! I am learning to not only listen for God’s voice, but to trust it as well, while hanging onto His promises! As I have stepped out in faith more and more often recently, God has encouraged me.
