Sharing His Beauty Blog Link Up

This week, I saw beauty while spending a couple of days away with my husband and son in Lake Tahoe.  We enjoyed wonderful conversation, good meals and many hours of watching the beautiful scenery all around us.  Our son is a photographer and we got to follow him around on several photo shoots.  My favorite of the week was on Friday morning.  We woke up at 4:30 in the morning (I know...yikes!) and headed a few miles away, to Emerald Bay (yes, I had a Starbucks in hand!)  As he photographed the sun rise, it was stunning to see the gold and red rays that began on the horizon, stretched across the sky and were reflected on the perfectly still water of the bay.  Each minute the scene was different and truly showcased the incredible artistry of our Creator.  We were truly blessed to be witness to God's beauty in that incredible place!

Sharing His Beauty Blog Link Up

This evening I am thanking God that the earthquake near Napa was in the middle of the night. Because most people were inside and not out on the sidewalks, in businesses or in other vulnerable places, many people were spared injury.  I'm praying for those who were hurt and for those who have experienced such damage to their property, but thank you, Lord, that no lives were lost!

Confessions of a People Pleaser

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to make people happy. That desire in itself is not a bad thing. However, when we try to meet someone’s unrealistic expectations and demands we are setting ourselves up for trouble. Creating happiness is actually out of our control. We can be pleasant and kind, loving and sweet but we don’t truly have the power to change the attitude of someone’s heart. Only God can do that.

Let me start at the beginning. I am the youngest of four children. The last of the litter, as I like to say. In addition, the age difference between my next sibling and me is 6 years. Then, there is a 9 year gap and then 11. So, as a child, I was still in kindergarten when my siblings were teens. Being the “baby” had its perks but it also came with some drawbacks. In my case, I was the child who was expected to make everything OK when there were disagreements in our home, a weight I have learned, that should never be placed on a child. When an older sibling acted out, as most children sometimes do, I was the one to bring peace to the family even though I was very little. I didn’t choose the role, but instead, it was something that I slipped into without even realizing it. I seemed to be able to make my parents (or my siblings) smile when they were angry or laugh when they were sad. And, as a child, I certainly didn’t like it when anyone I loved was angry or sad.

Filled with Joy!

"We also pray that you will be strengthened with all His glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need.  May you be filled with joy."  Colossians 1:11

Thank you, Jesus, for supplying us with strength!  During our time of waiting, you have given us endurance that we couldn't have had without you.  Sometimes we felt impatient, but now, we realize that even in that, you were teaching us how to persevere.  Each step of the way, when we were uncertain or even experiencing trial, you were teaching us something needed for this next season of our life.  Thank you for your comfort and healing.  In you, we find indescribable joy and our hearts are full!  We are praising your name as we step out in faith!  In your holy name, amen.

Sharing His Beauty

This week, I've seen God's beauty in a pile of boxes in our home!  Over the past year and a half, my husband and I have been on a journey.  As we sought to follow the Lord during this time, we found ourselves in a season of waiting.  And in our waiting, there were some trials and turmoil.  However, even in the most difficult of times, we felt God's presence.  We have been trusting Him and as always, God is faithful!  In a little over two weeks, we will be moving back to where we consider home to be.  I can't even tell you how thrilled I am!  I'm sure there will be many blog posts sharing all that I am feeling, but for now, I just want to share how God is always so good!  He always knows what is best and He always has a wonderful plan!  I am so excited to see this plan of His unfold.  So, as I frantically pack up our home and get everything organized, I am praising God for His clear direction in our lives!  Hearing from God is truly beautiful!
