I'm currently reading a book by Jennie Allen called, "Restless". In it, I just read the best definition I've ever heard for the word "glory" (referring to God's glory). I've always been a bit stumped by that word and didn't quite know how to define it. I know our God is a generous God who is not selfish. So, I have had trouble understanding the concept that God wants us to give Him glory. Maybe that sounds strange to you and maybe you've never had trouble understanding this desire of God. But, for some reason, I couldn't quite wrap my mind around it. I know He is worthy of all our praise and we should do everything for His glory, but I didn't know why He'd want that. My confusion didn't stop me from giving it to Him, though, but, when I read Jennie Allen's definition, my heart soared!
Finally, I understood! On page 85 of her book she writes, "God is most after his glory. And glory is the visible expression of God's goodness and beauty on this earth. It's how we recognize him." Isn't that awesome?! To give God glory is to share Him with the world! It is to show the world who He is and how great He is! When we do this, hearts are healed and lives are changed! No wonder God wants us to give Him glory! It's His plan of love for the world! Jennie writes that "The ultimate visible expression of God's glory on earth is Jesus." Jesus, after all, lived out the reflection of His Father here on earth for all to see! And that, my friends, is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen!
